The traveling exhibit honors the more than three million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces in the Vietnam War and it bears the names of the more than 58,000 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam.
REMEMBERING DONALD R. BURGETT
As a 140-pound teenager who joined the paratroopers during World War II and became a machine gunner, the odds weren’t in Don Burgett’s favor by a long shot. And he knew it. He said a machine gunner’s average life expectancy was three minutes because once he fired, he became a target.
THE EIGHT WOMEN ON THE WALL THAT HEALS
The names of eight women, all nurses (seven from the Army and one from the Air Force), are inscribed next to their fallen brothers on The Wall in Washington, D.C.
